Albania is one of the most interesting emerging clinical trial markets in the Western Balkans.
With a population of 2.8 million and approximately 110 trials listed on ClinicalTrials.gov, Albania is still early in its clinical research development curve.
The country’s opportunity is strongest across cardiovascular disease, oncology, infectious disease, hepatology, endocrinology, diabetes, neurology and respiratory disease.
For sponsors, Albania is not yet a large standalone trial market. Its value is in early site relationships, treatment naive patient access and its fit inside a broader Balkan clinical research strategy.
Tirana remains the center of gravity, anchored by the University Hospital Centre Mother Teresa, national specialist hospitals and the University of Medicine, Tirana.
