Serbia is becoming one of the most important clinical trial markets in the Balkans.
With a population of 6.7 million, 452 trials launched since 2023 and every major clinical trial site located within a 350 km radius of Belgrade, Serbia offers sponsors an unusually efficient geography for multi site coordination.
The country is especially relevant across oncology, neurology, cardiology and pulmonology, supported by experienced investigators, strong patient recruitment potential and major research institutions concentrated around Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac.
For sponsors, Serbia is valuable because it combines EU aligned standards with non EU operational flexibility. The December 2024 reform package also reduced several historical friction points, including Phase I access for private institutions and simultaneous investigational product import approval.
