Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG) is the largest university hospital group in Switzerland and ranked among the top 20 hospitals worldwide in Newsweek’s 2026 global rankings. Established in 1995 through the merger of Geneva’s public sector hospitals, HUG operates as a sprawling network comprising 11 hospital sites and dozens of outpatient care centers throughout the Canton of Geneva. Affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Geneva, HUG coordinates cutting-edge medical research and clinical care across various domains, featuring the largest maternity ward in Switzerland and an acclaimed center for organ transplantation. Notably, HUG is recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO) as a center of excellence in telemedicine and vaccinology and was the first hospital in Europe to achieve international Healthcare Sustainability Certification.
